North Fairmount Community Center (NFCC), in partnership with PNC Bank, is proud to offer the Money Smart Financial Literacy Program. These free financial education classes are designed to help individuals and families gain the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed financial decisions.
Whether you’re opening your first bank account, working to improve your credit, planning to purchase a home, or simply looking for better ways to manage your money, these classes provide practical information you can use every day.

Why Financial Literacy Matters
Understanding how to manage your finances is an important life skill. Financial literacy helps individuals make informed decisions about spending, saving, borrowing, and planning for the future.
Throughout this program, participants will learn strategies to build financial stability, improve credit, avoid common financial mistakes, and prepare for long-term success. In addition, each class provides practical tools that can be applied immediately to everyday financial situations.
Course Schedule
The Money Smart program includes eleven educational sessions that build on one another. However, each class also offers valuable information on its own.


Course description
Session 1: Bank On It
Explains available banking services and provides information about building a positive relationship with a financial institution
Session 2: Borrowing Basics
Explains credit and helps the participant decide whether they’re ready to apply for credit
Session 3: Check It Out
Helps users learn about opening and managing checking accounts, as well as how to use and balance a checkbook
Session 4: Disasters – Financial Preparation and Recovery
Teaches participants how to rebuild credit and recover financially after a financial setback by creating a financial recovery plan
Session 5: Keep It Safe
Provides ways to guard against identity theft, plan for unexpected death or disability, and prepare for disasters
Session 6: Loan To Own
Explains consumer installment loans and the benefits of owning versus renting
Session 7: Pay Yourself First
Teaches participants ways to save money and meet their saving goals
Session 8: To Your Credit
Teaches participants how to read a credit report and how to build and repair credit history
Session 9: Using Credit Cards
Teaches participants the basics of credit cards and strategies to manage their own credit cards
Session 10: Your Own Home
Explains the home-buying process and provides information about borrowing against your home for pre-home buyers and homeowners
Session 11: Your Income and Expenses
Helps participants create a personal spending plan with ways to decrease spending and increase income
